St. Francis
Feast Day: October 4. St. Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan Order, born at Assisi in Umbria, in 1181. He is the patron of Animals, Merchants & Ecology. His search for conversion led him to the ancient church at San Damiano. While he was praying there, he heard Christ on the crucifix speak to him, "Francis, repair my church." Francis took the Gospel literally by following all Jesus said and did. He believed that all creations of God were equal. Francis is often depicted with birds and animals.
