Feast Day: October 22 (anniversary of the date of his papal inauguration). St. John Paul II was beatified on May 1, 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI and canonized on April 27, 2015 by Pope Francis. A Pope of the 20th century and the first non-Italian pope in over 450 years. He was a spiritual protagonist in two global changes: the fall of European communism, which began in his native Poland in 1989, and the passage to the third millennium of Christianity. His canonization was on Divine Mercy Sunday, an observance he put on the church's universal calendar in 2000 on the Sunday after Easter. This is our BRAND NEW website!
